‘Vintage’ Computers - Am I Vintage?

by Jason Lenhart on Mar.08, 2009, under Computers, General

Having my usual cup of coffee at a local diner, macbook in tow — I came across this site:

Erik Klein’s Vintage Computer Collection

I found the site fun - but in some ways he is ‘keepin it real’ for me.  The most ‘vintage’ were the computers of my childhood.  For example the Commodore Vic-20 and the Apple IIe were the computers that would spawn heated playground arguments in grade school (yes, I ran with the RPG crowd :-).

It does not seem so vintage in my head — and so I don’t feel vintage myself.  I still vividly remember riding our bikes down the street talking about which was better … Coleco Adam, Commodore 64, or the Apple II.  Every so often Joey Ingermanson would chime in about the wonders of the ‘Trash-80′.  Personally, I always loved the Adam - it just came with everything and you could create an entire computer setup in a spare room of your house - otherwise it was a maze of wires going to the Family Room television.

Being in this industry - one thing I have observed is that the people you work with will always have a similar story of how they were introduced to computers.  Clearly, this an industry with passionate people - and a great time in history to be a technologist.

This trip down memory lane was fun and I am thankful for those friends who introduced me to these computers.
